Gli Snorlax mangiano sempre qualsiasi cosa gli capiti sotto il naso. Sono ghiotti principalmente di banane e piante delle pianura, e gli Snorlax si svegliano solo per mangiare. Hanno bisogno di mangiare almeno 410 kg di cibo al giorno (il 90% del loro peso) per essere sazi prima di riaddomentarsi - alcuni Snorlax dormono addirittura un mese filato, quindi 410 kg sono abbastanza per sostenere il loro lungo sonno.

Il suo nome probabilmente deriva dall'unione delle parole inglesi snore (russare) e lax (rilassato). Il suffisso -lax potrebbe derivare da relax (riposo).
